1. Bij het scheiden van mengsels van mineralen. Bromoform wordt gebruikt als vloeistof voor het scheiden van ertsen bij geologische tests, als laboratoriumreagens en in de elektronica-industrie in kwaliteitsborgingsprogramma's.
2. Bromoform werd vroeger gebruikt als oplosmiddel voor wassen, vetten en oliën, als ingrediënt in brandwerende chemicaliën en in vloeistofmeters. Het werd ook gebruikt als farmaceutisch tussenproduct.
