Lanthanum Oxide La2O3 CAS 1312-81-8
Slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in acid and the formation of corresponding salts. Exposed air is easy to absorb carbon dioxide and water, and gradually become lanthanum carbonate. The burning lanthanum oxide combines with water to release a great deal of heat.
Mainly used for manufacturing precision optical glass and optical fiber. Also used in electronic industry for ceramic capacitors, piezoelectric ceramic additives.
Also used as raw materials for lanthanum boride, oil separation refining catalyst.

La2O3 is used to make optical glasses, to which this oxide confers increased density, refractive index, and hardness. La2O3 is an
ingredient for the manufacture of piezoelectric and thermoelectric materials. Automobile exhaust-gas converters contain La2O3 La2O3 is also used in X-ray imaging intensifying screens, phosphors as well as dielectric and conductive ceramics. Gives off bright glow. |
