Fine white powder. Relative density 3.70. Melting point is 1497 ℃. Heat to 1340 ℃ decomposition and release carbon dioxide. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ammonia, ammonium carbonate, insoluble in alcohol, soluble in ammonium chloride, ammonium nitrate. It is boiled with ammonium chloride and converted to strontium chloride. It reacts with acids to release carbon dioxide.
